So what’s the difference between UVA and UVB light?
There are actually three different kinds of ultraviolet light. UVC is the type of ultraviolet light that is below the visible spectrum and is absorbed by the ozone layer and therefore no damage to us or our eyes.
UVA light is at the low end of the visible spectrum, passes through the outer structure of our eye, and is absorbed by our eye’s lens. Extended exposure to UVA can lead to the formation of cataracts.
UVB rays are the type that cause sunburn on our skin. These rays are absorbed by the outer surface of the eye. Extended exposure can lead to a condition called “snow blindness”, a burning of the eyes’ outer tissues, and can also lead to cataracts.
