Oblong Face Shape

If your face is longer than it is broad, it is an oblong or narrow shaped face. Oblong faces sometimes also have an extended nose and a long straight cheek line. To make it look shorter and more proportionate, select a style of frame which will have a top to bottom depth. The temples can be ornamented or can be brighter, so as to add breadth to the face. A low bridge will also allow the pronounced nose of an oblong shaped face to look shorter.

You should avoid small or narrow square-shaped glasses. Wider, oversized frames look much better than narrow frames as they break up the length of the face and help to balance the proportions. Be careful, however, not to choose a frame that is wider than your face or it will accent the narrow shape of your face. A second option for a narrow face is the semi-rimless frame—a frame that has no rim on either the top or the bottom. Semi-rimless frames help break up a long, narrow look. Square shaped glasses only emphasize the angular features of the face.
